Allenbourn Middle School

Titanic

Year 5 visited the SeaCity Museum in Southampton, to learn all about the Titanic.

Allenbourn's Year 5 visited the SeaCity Museum as part of their history topic, British Shipping 1837-1937. We were given a guided tour around the museum and our guide was impressed with the childrens' Titanic knowledge. In the workshop the children experienced; learning morse code, handling artefacts from the 1900s, a moral dilemma (who should get in the lifeboats) and how the Titanic sunk (modelled with a tub of water and a weighted ice cube tray). They then had some free time to stoke the coal fires, steer the ship (trying to avoid the icebergs) and to watch a video of interviews with the survivors.
