Netball Success

The Year 7 & 8 girls finally took part in their much-anticipated PEDSSA tournaments after they had been postponed on numerous occasions.

What a contrast in weather both teams experienced! Gone were the wet, windy and cold conditions of earlier dates, replaced instead by glorious sunshine and dry, hot conditions that made for two fantastic afternoons of netball.

Both squads of girls have truly gelled as a team, all of them bringing their own unique strengths to the court.

In Year 8, Captain Izzy led by example as a fearless defender and diligent leader, working tirelessly alongside fellow defenders Tia and Bethany to disrupt the opposition shooters’ rhythm and create crucial turnovers, swiftly turning defence into attack. In mid-court, Elliana, Rose (Vice-Captain) and Lexi worked like trojans, tirelessly linking defence and attack and delivering precise feeds into the shooting circle. Their teamwork and determination provided the perfect platform for Maisie and Hattie, who combined brilliantly under pressure to shoot with accuracy and composure. The team’s progress from last year was clear to see, particularly as they battled their way to a well-earned place in the semi-finals. Although they faced two challenging matches, they never stopped working hard, showing superb effort, resilience and determination to achieve their very best.

The Year 7 team, although they have not been together as long, have a huge amount of versatility. Apart from the shooters, Jess and Evie, the rest of the team are able to switch positions and play both mid court and defensively with ease. With 5 out of a possible 6 wins in the round robin stage, they progressed to the semifinals, narrowly losing their semi final but achieving a convincing win in their play off for 3rd and 4th position - thus making them bronze medallists and achieving the right to play in the County finals. An achievement not reached for at least 10 years by an AMS team!

Many congratulations to both teams on achieving such great results – a 4th and 3rd in PEDSSA is something we are extremely proud of alongside the outstanding progress you have made this season.

Well done, girls!
