Our Vision for Computing at Allenbourn Middle School

At Allenbourn Middle School, we believe that computing equips pupils with the knowledge, skills and confidence to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Our curriculum prepares pupils to use technology safely, responsibly and creatively, while developing the skills they need for further education, future careers and everyday life.

Through a carefully sequenced curriculum, pupils develop their understanding of computer science, information technology and digital literacy. They learn to think computationally, solve problems, create digital content and become confident, independent users of technology.

Computing also develops creativity, resilience, critical thinking and collaboration. We aim to empower pupils to become responsible digital citizens who can adapt to new technologies and make informed choices in an ever-changing world.

How Computing Links to Other Subjects

Computing supports learning across the curriculum by developing problem-solving, logical thinking and communication skills. Literacy is essential when reading instructions, evaluating information and writing code, while mathematics underpins programming, algorithms, spreadsheets, and data handling.

Computing also supports pupils' personal development by promoting teamwork, resilience and independent learning. Online safety is embedded throughout the curriculum, helping pupils understand how to use technology responsibly while reinforcing key themes from PSHE, Rights Respecting education and British Values.

How You Can Support Computing at Home

Encourage your child to use a range of digital devices confidently, including practising keyboard and mouse skills alongside touchscreen technology. Ask them to share what they have been learning in computing and explore their work together through Google Classroom.

Support opportunities to apply computing skills in everyday life, such as using spreadsheets, creating presentations or exploring age-appropriate coding websites. Most importantly, talk regularly about online safety, helping your child make safe, responsible and informed choices whenever they use technology.
